We are pleased to release a new study titled “Constitutional Protections for Future Generations among EU Member States”, authored by Thomas Belderbos, postgraduate student of International Law at University College London, during his internship at JESC.

The research analyses how 15 EU Member States have embedded the protection of future generations within their constitutions, exploring legal principles, court interpretations, and institutional frameworks that give practical meaning to intergenerational justice.

By mapping these constitutional provisions, the study provides valuable insight into how existing national frameworks can support the EU’s evolving Intergenerational Fairness agenda and strengthen the legal basis for the rights of future generations across Europe.
