Read MoreWe recognise our moral responsibility to respect the needs and rights of Future Generations. Long-term perspective, honest discussion and science-based analysis are key to good-quality decision-making. Future Generations thinking is crucial for just transition, but also beyond: we need it for the demographic decline, defence of democracy, adaptation to rapid AI development, and geopolitical uncertainties.
In this in mind, JESC-led Future Generations Initiative (FGI)Â aims to create the necessary legal, political and procedural solutions for representing Future Generations in the EU decision-making stuctures and processes. After a careful preparation process during 2023, the FGIÂ was launched in February 2024, saw with great joy the appointment of a Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness in the new 2024-29 European Commission, and currently gathers a growing diverse group of tens of civil society organisations.Â
